세계적인 도시 서울을 움직이는 서울메트로의 상징 개발. 우리나라 최초의 전철은 1974년 개통된 지하철 1호선(청량리-인천)입니다. 1960대부터 급속히 성장한 서울은 1970년대 인구 과밀화와 교통체증의 도시화 문제를 겪었으며, 이를 해결하기 위해 전철이 개통됐습니다. 이후 지하철 2호선과 3호선, 4호선이 80년대 순차적으로 개통되었으며, 현재 서울 및 수도권 전철 노선도는 22개로 확장되었습니다. 그야말로 서울을 움직이는 대동맥이라 할 수 있습니다.
서울교통공사는 복잡한 서울의 전철을 효율적으로 운영하기 위해 2017년 출범했습니다. 그전까지 노선별로 달랐던 운영기관이 서울교통공사로 통합된 형태이며, 통합 공사의 출범을 알리기 위해 새로운 상징을 개발했습니다. 새로운 상징은 단순 기관의 상징이 아니라 서울 전철을 대표하는 상징을 목표로 개발했습니다. 서울 교통 하면 떠오르는 상징이 되기 위해서 서울의 이니셜 S를 교통을 연상할 수 있는 아이콘 형태로 개발했습니다. 내국인 및 외국인 모두에게 보편적인 서울의 교통 아이콘으로 개발했습니다.

The development of the symbol for Seoul Metro, which drives the global city of Seoul. The first subway line in South Korea, Line1 (Cheongyangni-Incheon), opened in 1974. Seoul , which grew rapidly since 1960s, faced issues such as overpopulation and traffic congestion in the 1970s. To address these challenges, the subway system was introduced. Since then, the subway Line 2 and 3 were sequentially opened in the 1980s. Currently, Seoul and the metropolitan subway lines were expanded to 22.
Seoul Metropolitan Subway Corporation was established in 2017 to efficiently operate the complex subway system of Seoul. Prior to this, the operation of each line was handled by different organizations, but they were unified under the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Corporation. To announce the launch of the integrated corporation, a new symbol was developed. The new symbol was not just intended for the organization, but was designed the entire Seoul Subway. In order to become a symbol that immediately comes to mind initial “S” of Seoul in the form of an icon that evokes the idea of transportation. It was created to be a universally recognized transportation icon for both locals and foreigners.
